Il est situ\u00e9 sur le territoire des communes de&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ruynes-en-Margeride\">Ruynes-en-Margeride<\/a>&nbsp;et&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Val_d%27Arcomie\">Val d&rsquo;Arcomie<\/a>&nbsp;dans le&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/D%C3%A9partement_fran%C3%A7ais\">d\u00e9partement<\/a>&nbsp;du&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cantal_(d%C3%A9partement)\">Cantal<\/a>&nbsp;en r\u00e9gion&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Auvergne-Rh%C3%B4ne-Alpes\">Auvergne-Rh\u00f4ne-Alpes<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Ce viaduc est un projet de l&rsquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ing%C3%A9nieur_des_ponts_et_chauss%C3%A9es_(France)\">ing\u00e9nieur des ponts et chauss\u00e9es<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/L%C3%A9on_Boyer\">L\u00e9on Boyer<\/a>&nbsp;qui en confie la finalisation et la r\u00e9alisation \u00e0&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gustave_Eiffel\">Gustave Eiffel<\/a>&nbsp;et sa soci\u00e9t\u00e9. Le chantier de sa construction ouvert en&nbsp;janvier 1880&nbsp;se termine en&nbsp;septembre 1884&nbsp;et sa mise en service est effectu\u00e9e en 1888 par la&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Compagnie_des_chemins_de_fer_du_Midi_et_du_Canal_lat%C3%A9ral_%C3%A0_la_Garonne\">Compagnie des chemins de fer du Midi et du Canal lat\u00e9ral \u00e0 la Garonne<\/a>&nbsp;concessionnaire de la ligne.
